ABOUT BETSY H.

As the San Antonio Office Leader for Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, I bring a combination of engineering expertise, strategic leadership, and policy insight. I hold a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri Science & Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, complemented by studies in Middle East Politics and Arabic.I retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel, and have extensive experience working across local, federal, and international policy environments. Most recently, I served as Assistant to the Director of Military and Veteran Affairs, where I managed land-use and military infrastructure forums to support the City of San Antonio’s development initiatives and coordinated projects with federal, municipal, and private partners. My previous role as a Capital Projects Officer for the City of San Antonio required me to collaborate with council members, the Public Works department, and community stakeholders, contributing to the delivery of the city’s $1.2 billion bond program for 2017–2022. I am dedicated to environmental stewardship in the City of San Antonio, and volunteer extensively with the San Antonio River Authority as a River Docent, River Warrior, and Citizen Scientist; I conduct monthly CORE water testing through the Texas Stream Team; and I am a Certified Texas Waters Specialist through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. I have a track record of strong technical/grant writing in volunteer spaces using federal grants to help the community, as well as high-level communications skills and consensus building with disparate stakeholders and leaders on complex community infrastructure projects, policy development, and more, including municipal, national and international executives throughout my career.I am currently heavily engaged as a volunteer in the City of San Antonio as a Texas Master Naturalist in the founding chapter, the Alamo Area Master Naturalists, with a focus on water resources and water quality monitoring.
