ABOUT BETHANY COATS

Ever since I can remember, my answer to the question, “What’s most important to you?” has always been easy: “my people.” Connection is one of the most basic human needs and a cornerstone of the human experience. Why is that important? Because almost every job involves people. Some, like doctors or therapists, have an immediate impact. Others influence in quieter ways. Maybe in another life, I’d be in one of those roles, but after nearly two decades of planning to be a music teacher, I discovered the world of user experience and never looked back. We don’t save lives, but our work absolutely makes a difference in them.Technology has become an extension of how we experience the world. As UX professionals, we have the opportunity to shape those experiences and create small moments of ease, clarity, or delight. That’s what I love most. Through this work, “my people” expands to include users. I get to understand what drives them, see what makes them tick, and design experiences that make life a little easier or brighter.
