ABOUT BETHANY SMITH
Lecturer in PE and School Sport | Programme Manager | Early Career Researcher | UEFA B Coach | SFHEAI am a passionate and dedicated Lecturer in PE and School Sport at Hartpury University, where I have been since November 2020. Since September 2022, I have had the privilege of serving as the Programme Manager for the FdSc Sport Performance and Coaching programme, alongside the BSc (Hons) Sport Performance Top Up. I also teach across Levels 4–7, covering modules within the FdSc, Sport Coaching, and PE and School Sport undergraduate programmes. From August 2025, I am now a Cluster Programme Manager of: BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching, BSc (Hons) Sports Performance, BSc (Hons) Sports Performance Top Up (Level 6 Entry). In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am deeply involved in curriculum development and quality assurance processes, ensuring alignment with the University’s academic regulations. Most recently, I led the design and development of the new BSc (Hons) Sports Performance programme at Hartpury University.As an early career researcher, I am particularly passionate about exploring teaching and learning practices, as well as coach development. My research focuses on professional development and effective strategies within education settings. In recognition of my commitment to enhancing educational practice, I earned Fellowship status in April 2022 and Senior Fellowship in December 2024.I am also an active contributor to the football coaching community. I currently work part-time as a FA Coach Mentor for Gloucestershire FA and a UEFA C Coach Developer in the Gloucestershire region. Since August 2024, I have expanded my role as a Quality Developer for The FA, overseeing quality assurance within the coach education pathway. I am a UEFA B qualified coach, dedicated to supporting coaches and players in achieving their goals.Academic Qualifications- Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy- MA in Professional Education Practice- First-Class Honours in Sport Coaching and PE from Plymouth Marjon University- PGCE in Secondary Education (Physical Education with QTS), with Distinction in SEND and PSHEI pride myself on my strong work ethic, my continuous personal growth, and my unwavering commitment to helping young people and adults reach their full potential. I am dedicated to creating the best possible learning environments and opportunities for those I support, while striving to be the best version of myself both personally and professionally.
