ABOUT BETHANIE CONABOY

I’m Sole Legal Counsel & Data Protection Officer at SaleCycle, a technology company based in Newcastle and Paris. We help leading international brands reach, retain and re-engage their customers - turning digital touchpoints into meaningful connections that drive growth.I lead all aspects of SaleCycle\'s legal and data protection strategy, partnering with teams across the business to drive clarity, efficiency and compliance. I’m passionate about turning technological ambition into practical, compliant delivery - ensuring progress is bold, well-governed and commercially focused on securing revenue growth. My role is about more than legal and compliance; it’s about enabling progress safely, clearly and confidently. Whether it’s negotiating partnerships, shaping product frameworks, advising on debt recovery, strengthening sales contracts or guiding teams through data protection, I enjoy bringing clarity and commercial common sense to fast-moving, regulated environments. As DPO, I keep privacy and governance aligned with innovation and growth. Before joining SaleCycle, I spent over four years at Asda, first supporting Operations (covering fleet procurement & financing, charity collaborations, Pharmacy and operational partnerships) before moving into the Digital Team during one of the retailer’s biggest transformation programmes. It was an exciting time to be involved - from installing new tills and software, to migrating cloud databases, launching a new app and exploring autonomous vehicles. Those projects taught me how to work closely with business teams to turn complex, fast-paced ideas into practical solutions.I began my legal career at Ward Hadaway, where I trained and qualified as a Commercial Solicitor after working as a paralegal representing NHS Trusts in healthcare litigation. My training covered Insolvency & Corporate Recovery, Commercial Property and Company Commercial, complemented by a secondment with Virgin Money’s in-house legal team. As an NQ, my clients ranged from renewable energy developers and international corporations to councils, charities and local businesses. These experiences shaped the grounded, people-first approach I bring to my work today.I’m passionate about helping businesses scale responsibly and achieve their goals - combining sound governance with a genuine enthusiasm for collaboration, problem-solving and getting things done. My experience spans commercial contracting, governance, data protection, corporate and operational matters, giving me an end-to-end view of how modern businesses grow and scale responsibly.
