Leadership role with accountability for shaping and delivering talent development strategy within a complex, fast-growing government department at the heart of UK science, technology and innovation policy. DSIT has a workforce of people, spanning policy, science, digital, data and specialist professions.I provide clear strategic direction and calm leadership to a multidisciplinary team, enabling high-quality delivery while operating at pace in a dynamic policy and organisational environment. I work closely with senior leaders as a trusted advisor on talent, early careers and workforce capability.Key aspects of the role include- Setting and leading talent strategy to build sustainable pipelines into critical and specialist roles across the department- Oversight of a portfolio of high-impact talent programmes, aligned to organisational priorities and future capability needs- Designing an apprenticeship blueprint to support long-term workforce planning and early-career development at scale- Designing and establishing a senior leadership programme to strengthen leadership capability and organisational effectiveness- Navigating complex stakeholder relationships across government, balancing pace, quality, governance and political context- Supporting senior leaders with problem solving, decision-making and leadership development during change and ambiguityThe role requires strong judgement, credibility and the ability to operate comfortably at senior levels, translating strategy into coherent, organisation-wide approaches that deliver meaningful impact.
