ABOUT BETELHEM S. ABAY

I graduated with a MS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Maine on Aug 2022. Through my studies and extracurricular work, I have gained over five years of interdisciplinary research and engineering work experience. During my undergraduate and master\'s programs, I spent over six months as a Clinical Engineering Intern at Northern Light Health Eastern Maine Medical Center, where I learned many of the fundamentals of clinical engineering. I also worked for four years as a student laboratory aid performing several laboratory works for general chemistry lab courses, and for two years as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, leading an undergraduate chemistry lab course. I gained biomedical imaging & image analysis skills through my work as a research assistant which exposed me to a wide variety of clinical research questions and engineering approaches to find solution to current challenges especially cancer progression. I am driven and motivated to work on projects and greatly enjoy working as part of a team as well. All of my education, leadership and volunteer roles helped me develop the executive functioning skills, open communication, and cultural competence. Currently, I am working as a laboratory instructor at Students 2 Science, a nonprofit experiential learning centers where students will get motivated and inspired to study & pursue career in STEM fields.
