ABOUT BERTRAND DE VOLONTAT
Throughout my career, I’ve collaborated with hundreds of publishers, helping them shape strategies around content distribution, reader engagement, paywalls, B2B channels, and emerging tech. I am passionate about the future of media and building smart, scalable solutions for a sustainable publishing industry. In April 2025, I joined Ekkow (formerly Nordot) as VP of Publishers and EMEA, where I lead strategic partnerships and drive the company’s growth across the digital news ecosystem. Based in Europe, I oversee global publisher acquisition and spearhead Nordot’s expansion in the EMEA region. I also lead our content marketing strategy to share our expertise in content distribution. My work bridges media and technology, helping publishers and creators maximize reach and revenue through licensing, innovative content models, and cross-border distribution. With a background in journalism and business, I’m committed to ensuring quality journalism thrives and reaches the audiences who need it.From 2017 to 2024, I held several leadership roles at upday (Axel Springer), the mobile news platform for Samsung. I began as Editor-in-Chief for France and Belgium, later expanding my responsibilities to include Spain and Italy as Country Manager. I led three newsrooms and worked closely with top management on strategic decisions around content, audience growth, publisher partnerships an AI in the newsroom. In 2020, I also served as Acting Chief Editor Europe, overseeing editorial strategy across all markets. Before upday, I served as Editorial Manager at VISEO, a digital consulting firm, where I designed and implemented a smart content strategy aimed at supporting the company\'s broader digital transformation goals. In 2014, I co-founded The Tourist in Paris, a web and mobile app offering curated local experiences for visitors. The project was incubated at Le Comptoir de l’Innovation and became the first app of its kind to be featured on JCDecaux digital displays in Paris. I led editorial and communications efforts for three years.I began my journalism career at Les Echos and 20 Minutes after graduating from Sciences Po in 2011 with a degree in Media, Communication & Journalism.
