Straterra represents the NZ minerals sector. Our membership comprises producers, explorers, researchers, engineers, geotechnical experts, and providers of services in legal, financial, planning, environmental management.Reporting to the CEO, Chris Baker, I lead much of Straterra\'s policy work. Participation in government legislative and policy processes has dominated the agenda, via written submissions, appearances before Select Committees, and membership of advisory panels and reference groups. Straterra also carries out direct advocacy to the Government, and Opposition politicians, and officials. A key audience are Cabinet Ministers, and their Office staff at Parliament.Areas of policy work include rights to minerals (including royalties and tax); resource management, including heritage and conservation; oceans; climate change; responsible development; and health & safety. In preparing our policy advocacy, Straterra consults extensively with subject matter experts within our membership, and with other sources of expertise. believe good policy is developed where there is early engagement between government and stakeholders, and when participants take a collaborative approach. Policy should reflect society\'s values, and work in the national interest. At Straterra, our advocacy is based on fairness and transparency, and while we have the minerals sector\'s interests at heart, we know we will only succeed if we pursue a NZ Inc approach. We believe our advice is credible and responsible.
