About Bernie Chowdhury

I seek to use my full range of skills – training, presentation, editing, writing, managing - to complement and improve company’s existing Teams for greater visibility, productivity, and increased bottom line. Over the past 14 years I’ve worked in various capacities in the field of Hyperbaric Medicine. This allowed me to bring many previously-acquired skills to use, including: teaching and training, public presentations, writing, editing, managing, and mentoring. In addition, my obtaining a board certification as a hyperbaric medical technologist (CHT) allowed me to directly engage in treating hospital medical patients in the hyperbaric units of several hospitals in the greater New York area. Treating patients and helping to run a hyperbaric unit, including interacting with all levels within the hospital hierarchy, have added considerably to my skill-sets. My extensive training background and skills have been very useful in my work in Hyperbaric Medicine when I was asked to obtain accreditation for a 40-hour Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine course. I obtained and maintained course accreditation through the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). I was promoted from Course Coordinator to Course Training Director; physicians earned 40 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ™ (Continuing Medical Edition – CME – credits) for full attendance at this training program. I ran the courses with a team of health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, technicians, and administrators, and I also presented lectures as part of the course faculty. My skills as a magazine editor and as an author (The Last Dive, HarperCollins Publishers) have proven useful in editing scientific papers and grants, as well as co-authoring scientific papers, and general articles about the medical field. These are in addition to my many previously published articles in the diving field.

   Life Support Technologies Group

   Apr 2004 — Present · Tarrytown, NY, US

   Overall responsibity for the Life Support Technologies group (LST) 5-day \"Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine\" course, which is taught 4 x/yr in hospitals in the NY region. Facilitated course creation; gained approval of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT). Am part of course faculty.I also write company press releases, blogs, and articles. Have written a grant proposal. Currently working with medical doctors to write articles about enhancing patient clinical outcomes through the use of hyperbaric medicine.Other responsibilities include treating hyperbaric medical patients (as needed), representing the company at conferences, and conducting presentations at medical conferences. Past responsibilities have included helping run one of the company\'s nine hospital-based hyperbaric units.
