ABOUT BERNICE G. GULEK
PhD-trained Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, educator, and clinical researcher with over 20 years of experience driving innovation in neuroscience, critical care, and systems-based practice. Self-motivated, analytical and creative thinker, result driven with strong work ethic, and a commitment to fostering team excellence. I embrace systems-thinking, human-centered design, strategic change, and believe in \"everyone brings a value\" to table.I served as the Inaugural Chair of the Advanced Practice Provider Council at Harborview Medical Center, where I led initiatives that empower APPs, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, increase APP visibility, and align APP practice with the institutional values.Clinically, I specialize in neurocritical care and neurosurgery, manage not only complex patients with neuro-trauma (TBI-SCI), aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and neurological emergencies but also complex medical comorbidities. I have a strong desire in bridging clinical care with technology, closing the gap between hospital discharge and real-world recovery, prevention of readmissions, advocating for structured, person-centered systems and digital tools to improve long-term outcomes. As a Clinical Research Scientist, I’ve led national and international projects focused on patient-reported outcomes, clinical protocols, and emerging technologies in healthcare. Managing complex research projects, database management, development and revision of SOPs, ICF process, Quality assurance, and cross-functional teams. Possess strong grasp in GCP, GLP, FDA regulatory processes, basic understanding of international regulations. I take part in review of NIH funded clinical trials at a large academic center IRB. In addition, my work focuses on strengthening connections among research, policy, technology, and frontline practice to create sustainable change.Whether I’m at the bedside, behind a research protocol, or mentoring future clinicians, my mission remains constant: to advance equity, resilience, and excellence in clinical care.
