About Bernarda Carrera
I am a lawyer specializing in Human Rights, International Humanitarian Law, and International Criminal Law. I am currently an LL.M. candidate at Georgetown University Law Center, Merit Scholar, 2025–2026 AAUW International Fellow, and pursuing the Human Rights Certificate.At Georgetown, I serve as a Research Assistant for the Cumulative Civilian Harm Project, am a Legal Extern with Disability Rights International, and contribute to the Human Rights Advocacy in Action Practicum. I also coach Georgetown’s IHL Moot Court teams.Previously, I worked as a Generalist Field Officer with the ICRC in Peru, supporting conflict-affected communities and coordinating humanitarian responses, and as a Law Clerk to the Vice President of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, advancing human rights jurisprudence on identity, gender, and accountability.I am passionate about bridging legal expertise and field experience to promote human rights, accountability, and humanitarian protection globally.
