ABOUT BENSON INNOCENT EDOBOR

I grew up in Nigeria, where access to education wasn’t guaranteed. Getting through school meant defying the odds; education became my path out of poverty and into purpose. That journey continues to fuel everything I do today. I’m pursuing a Master’s in Global Political Economy and Development at the University of Kassel, Germany, as a DAAD Leadership for Africa Scholar. I earned a First-Class Honours degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Benin, Nigeria. I am also a Salzburg Global Fellow for Public Policy – New Voices Europe. Through these opportunities, I’ve learned that scholarships are not just about funding; they are platforms for growth, exposure, and giving back. Having faced multiple rejections before earning a place, I now share reflections and practical lessons to help students access scholarships, navigate study-abroad opportunities, and maximize their impact once they arrive. My broader work and research interests focus on governance, education equity, and inclusive development, particularly in the Global South. As Team Lead for Public Relations at the Living Dreams Foundation (Nigeria), I’ve directed community education initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and youth engagement programs. I’ve also collaborated with Nigeria’s electoral commission (INEC) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, alongside leadership roles in student government. Each experience has reinforced my dedication to public service and systemic change. In addition to volunteering, I bring experience in operations, program coordination, and stakeholder engagement across the public and private sectors. I also hold sustainable development, project management, and agile methodologies certifications. Wherever I serve, whether on the ground, in policy spaces, or through mentorship, I focus on justice, participation, and creating pathways for others. My long-term goal is to contribute to global policy dialogue, shape more inclusive governance frameworks, and mentor the next generation of scholars and leaders, especially from the Global South.
