View department →

Denver, CO, US

A combination of production, development, and project DBA duties in a large, highly-available, virtualized environment. Many of our mission-critical workloads include systems for public safety and first responders. There are approximately 125 SQL Server instances, with databases ranging as large as 3TB. • Built multiple 2016, 2017, and 2019 AlwaysOn availability groups to support the organization\'s most critical authentication, infrastructure, and security applications. Once built and tested, I worked closely with the application administrators to install, test, and troubleshoot the applications prior to go-live.• Participated in project meetings and ensured that the server builds met the project\'s recovery time and recovery point objectives.• Developed PowerShell and SQL Scripts to gather performance and configuration baselines and deploy configuration uniform changes across all SQL Server instances.• Diagnosed and fixed performance problems. Realized impressive performance gains, sometimes reducing runtimes from hours to minutes or from minutes to seconds. Identified and fixed issues such as out-of-date statistics missing indexes, parameter sensitivity (aka parameter sniffing) in code, and non-sargable predicates. Recommended code changes to developers. • Developed, maintained and fixed a wide variety of stored procedures, views, PowerShell scripts, and SSIS packages to solve a variety of business needs. Some of the more interesting systems and projects included Campaign Finance, Fiscal Transparency, video surveillance systems, a Traffic Cams.• Assisted teams with software rollouts, updates, and migrations.• Troubleshot a wide variety of production problems and participated on an on-call rotation.• Performed routine DBA tasks such as documentation, permission grants, restores, and refreshing lower-level environments.
