About Bennett Jackins
Like many of Gen Z kids, I owe it all to LEGO! Growing up I wanted to build anything I could get my hands on. From Lego sets to anything IKEA to building my own two story treehouse. Soon that turned into not just building things, but understanding how they work. This was important because in High School you could often find my under my $1,600 Craigslist Hyundai trying to figure out why my brake rotors were melting. it was my brake pads! My passion for problem solving and understanding the world around me led me to engineering. I attended the University of South Carolina, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors College in May, 2022, with my B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administrations. At UofSC, I lead an undergraduate research for the Boeing Company (Charleston, SC) focused on composite manufacturing, while also interning for the U.S. Department on Transportation focusing on the future implantation of self driving vehicles. This experience in both aerospace & transportation led me to Indra Air traffic Inc.(Overland Park, KS), where I started my career as a Systems Test Engineer. I designed, developed, and implemented automated procedures to test software and hardware features of our company\'s air traffic control product line (including Multilateration, ADS-B, and Secondary Surveillance Radars). Now, I work as a Civil Roadway Analyst at Kimley-Horn (Reston, VA). I use MicroStation and Civil 3d to optimize and redesign existing transportation systems to promote safety, efficiency, and our clients needs. I love problem solving, collaborating, and working in team environments with engineers across many different disciplines. I am blessed to continue this as a professional, and I can\'t wait to see where my journey takes me!
