ABOUT BENN L. BONGANG

Benn L. Bongang is a professor of Journalism & political science in the department of Political Science and Public Affairs at Savannah State University. A former Journalist and TV Producer/Director, Bongang edited and broadcast the news, wrote and produced several documentaries for both radio and television, and was station manager for the Eastern provincial affiliate of the Cameroon Radio and Television Corporation (CRTV). Bongang was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Boston University in 1992/93, and also interned at the United Nations Radio and at the UN Department of Disarmament Affairs in New York. He holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Yaounde in Cameroon, a post-graduate diploma in Television production and directing, a M.S. in Journalism from Boston University, an M.A. and a Ph.D in International Studies from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He is author of “The United States and the United Nations: Congressional Funding and United Nations Reform” published in 2007 by LFB Scholarly of New York. He has also written among others, “Voices in the Dark: Mavericks, Censorship and Freedom of Expression in Cameroon,” in Democracy and Culture: An African Perspective, edited by Lioba Moshi & Abdulahi A. Osman. Dr. Bongang has been sought for his views on diverse issues by media and other organizations including Al Jazeera, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Des Moines Register, local TV stations and by The Savannah Morning News.
