ABOUT BEN HALLEY

I’m a proven R&D leader with over 25 years of experience. I help software development organizations become predictable, transparent, responsive, productive and produce quality software that delights users.Things I believe in… Common Sense - Above all else, common sense should prevail. Think big, act small, fail fast - Think big: You need a North star. Act small: Provide incremental value, get feedback, repeat. Fail fast: It’s ok to fail, just do it fast and learn from it. Hire the right people – They need to be smart, get stuff done and have a positive attitude. Technical Debt – It’s ok to have some, it’s not ok to not know about it or not have a plan to tackle it. Automation – Automation is the key to continuous delivery with high velocity and quality. Architecture – Create layered, modular architectures. You need to be able to replace any layer or module with minimal disruption. Quality – Quality!= Testing. Build quality in. Adopt a risk-based approach to testing. Product Teams - Form long-lived teams that own products from end to end Continuous improvement – Inspect and adapt. Never stop improving, circumstances are always changing. Leaderful Organization - Establish clear goals and objectives and (over)communicate them. Once these are well understood, everyone can be empowered to make informed, autonomous decisions. Establish and cultivate a leaderful organization. Coach & mentor other leaders. Drive decisions to the edge. Efficiency - Don’t worry about measuring Productivity … you can’t. Efficiency is the currency of Productivity. Improve Efficiency ⇨ More Capacity ⇨ Greater Productivity. Evidence Driven - Make evidence drive decisions whenever you canContact me at b••••••••@yahoo.com
