ABOUT BEN MCFARLAND
I now support NYS JSOC / NYSOC operations through the development of operational playbooks, procedures, and SOPs, developing training and improving investigation techniques. For nearly four years, I was previously one of the managers of the Security Operations Center for NYS, Office of Information Technology Services, leading a team of analysts to review and respond to issues identified in our scope of responsibility.I formerly supported Fortune 500 companies with core file analysis, performance and tuning analysis and Solaris software/hardware issue resolution. I provided incident reports in clear and concise language which was technologically complete but easily understood by nontechnical personnel. I interacted with customers at all skill levels in situations ranging from routine education to unplanned crisis outages.I also (infrequently) complete freelance creative writing projects with over 150 credits, having worked for Paizo Publishing, Wizards of the Coast, Kobold Press, Atlas Games, Rite Publishing, Storm Bunny Studios, AAW Games, Sub Rosa magazine, and machinima.com- producing scenarios, articles, material, and scripts to specification and on-time, as well as coordinating both convention events and playtest projects. My personal experience with storytelling/roleplaying games stretches back 30 years and over a half-dozen systems. My work at Kobold Press (and once with Paizo) was recognized by the role-playing game industry\'s \"Ennie Awards,\" garnering 2 Golds, 4 Silvers, and 1 Judge\'s Choice medal.
