About Benjamin Raposo

Since I was young, I have always wanted to pursue a career in medicine. My father, an oral surgeon, and all of his colleagues and friends have always been knowledgeable about the human body, medicine, and have created everlasting changes to benefit many people’s lives, including mine. In the later years of my high school career and my early years of undergrad, I really tested whether or not I was meant for medicine or not. I had the opportunities to work for my father’s practice, shadow some of his colleagues and my other family members, and experience some of the most influential moments of my life which were related to medicine. I knew it was right for me. My personal career goal hasn’t changed much since then, and I still strive to become a surgeon. Although I am leaving my options open in terms of my specialty, I know that I desire a position in medicine that allows me to function as myself. That being, hands on, detail oriented, clean and concise, and pursuing goals in my own timely fashion. One of the most important things to me is changing people\'s lives. Being able to understand the issues present and then being able to conduct live, benefiting alterations has certainly pulled me deeper into this idea of becoming a surgeon, and I love it. Although becoming a surgeon is certainly my top goal, I also strive to become highly connected in research. As a student, an athlete, and lover of the outdoors and health, research has become increasingly important in my life. I love to reference research that has the potential to impact me. Whether the research is about neural performance, endurance and resistance training, dieting, sleep, oral health, hormones, or even the impact of technology on my health (just to name a few examples), I love to immerse myself into these topics, continuing to learn and teach myself new things. My life has certainly changed due to advancements in research and to be able to conduct my own, and benefit the lives of others is certainly another goal of mine. At the moment, I currently work as a server for Cozobi Fonda Fina, a Bib Gourmand Michelin Award winning restaurant in Boulder, and have been there since June 2024. I also volunteer at Denver Health, a level one trauma center in Denver, and for the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) as a sit ski instructor in Winter Park.

Dec 2025 — Present · Winter Park, CO, US

In December 2025, I completed training to become an adaptive ski instructor with the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD). In this role, I coach individuals with disabilities using adaptive techniques and specialized equipment, collaborating with other instructors to personalize instruction based on each skier’s goals, comfort level, and ability. I contribute my years of skiing experience and what I have learned from training to my success as a coach in providing the most proficient, fun, and effective ski training for individuals of all ages and ability. My work has already reinforced my adaptability, patience, and ability to communicate clearly in dynamic situations, skills I also bring to academic and research settings. Although this role does provide me with experience with individuals with disabilities, I also get to do what I love. Oftentimes, individuals that are skiing are there for the first time, or it is a rare occurrence in their lives, but they are at their happiest when given this opportunity. It truly warms my heart to be able to share such great experiences and to spread my love and passion for skiing to people who never would have had the chance to without myself and a program like NSCD.
