About Benjamin Mowbray
My mission is to develop impactful technologies to enable the clean energy transition. I am currently working with Prof. Yet-Ming Chiang at MIT on low temperature processes for extracting critical minerals from aluminosilicates.I grew up in rural British Columbia in a predominantly blue collar environment and have always been drawn to solving big industrial problems for the benefit of the climate. After completing my undergraduate education in Northern BC, I received my PhD in Prof. Berlinguette\'s group at University of British Columbia. My PhD research focused on designing electrochemical systems for converting captured CO2 into value-added products, and for decarbonizing cement production. My systematic approach to research involves identifying key steps in chemical systems and designing materials and systems to exploit these processes and improve system performance. I then moved to MIT to work with Prof. Yet-Ming Chiang at the Centre for Electrification and Decarbonization of Industry (CEDI) on developing scalable technologies for decarbonizing the heaviest industrial emitters including cement, steel, and ammonia production.
