ABOUT BEN FUHRMANN

I am a lawyer who maintains a Corporate Commercial and Regulatory practice at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in Toronto. My practice includes advising on a wide range of matters including corporate governance, commercial agreements, mergers & acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and product regulatory compliance and enforcement.Within my corporate and commercial practice, I routinely support organizations by drafting and negotiating a broad spectrum of agreements, including those related to supply of goods and services, research collaborations, and intellectual property licensing. I assist companies in corporate restructurings, mergers & acquisitions, and other supply chain matters such as developing procedures for supply chain due diligence. I frequently advise charities and not-for profits, including hospitals, foundations, and community health centres on governance best practices and on navigating sensitive matters that may involve reputational risk.In my product regulatory practice, I provide strategic guidance to companies entering or operating in the Canadian market, often from the European Union or the United States, including on product compliance, labelling, warnings, advertising, recalls, and responding to enforcement action from some of Canada’s key product regulators, including Health Canada and Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada. I have particular experience in assisting both domestic and international companies that manufacture, import, and/or sell medical devices, pharmaceuticals, foods, and natural health products. I also have significant experience advising on sale of good and consumer protection legislation across the country to assist manufacturers and online retailers in developing compliant contracts of sale, terms of service, and warranty documentation. I am a co-author of LexisNexis’ Canadian Food and Drug Legislation & Commentary, 2025 Edition.Prior to law school, I completed my Master\'s of Science in Immunology studying kidney transplantation and inflammation. I worked to develop and test new immunosuppression drugs to reduce ischemia-reperfusion injury following surgery. My research has been published in the American Journal of Transplantation, Current Research in Immunology, and the Journal of Immunology Research. I have been a lifelong competitive baseball player and was a pitcher for Western\'s Varsity Baseball team for 4 years. I enjoy playing softball and reading books (Fantasy and Science Fiction), particularly by J.R.R. Tolkien, Brandon Sanderson, Dan Simmons, and Pierce Brown.
