ABOUT BENJAMIN SWAIN

In 1998 i left school and i started off as an apprentice toolmaker, using manual milling and boring machines, surface grinders, and lathes. I passed the advanced modern apprenticeship in 2002 and started using Fanuc controlled lathes, Heidenhain 4 axis CNC milling and Robucut EDM machines. My role was to help design form tools,jigs,fixtures and press tooling within a spring manufacturing environment. Over time the press side of the business slowed down, so we used our engineering skills to design and manufacture automation machines to assist in improving other areas of the company. Such as pick and place on furnace conveyors and also camera inspection/load testing machines to reduce the need for human interaction. These automated projects made the entire manufacturing process much more streamlined and profitable, cutting human intervention from 20 plus to one person per shift. In March 2019 I was promoted to team leader of the toolroom, press and flat shop, light and heavy hand coil. This role was a full responsibility of the above sections, managing their day to day activities, ensuring a safe working environment, the development of the staff, holiday planning etc. This is a responsibility of approximately 4million pounds in sales value per year. The above responsibilities are for automotive, commercial, aircraft and nuclear sectors.Within the role I still have responsibilities regarding the maintenance and other engineering disciplines. I pride myself on both my personal and team motivation skills, my problem solving abilities and my punctuality.
