About Benjamin Sutton

I always get a rush from discovery. For me, there is nothing better than finally fully understanding a problem and the reasons behind it and then solving it. Because of this, I have filled my life with new challenges and opportunities to discover. As a student, athlete and fraternity member Sigma Chi at Willamette University, time management and work ethic are skills that I thoroughly developed. I value these skills that I can carry through my life regardless of my path just as much as the knowledge I gather in the classroom. Outside of the university my passions drove me towards biological research and medicine. I’m just as eager to talk your ear off about a new medical development I’ve stumbled across than the latest headline in the sports world. My experience working for Nanostring Technologies helped not only to further my interests, specifically in oncological research, but also granted me valuable research skills and opportunities to learn from experienced scientists from all disciplines. I believe that medicine and microbiological research are areas of powerful, positive change and I am driven to be part of this change. I am eager for further opportunities to apply my passion, skills and knowledge in these fields because of the experiences I am blessed to have already had. I have learned so much spending time in laboratories such as those at the University of Washington and the Mount St. Helens institute. I couldn\'t discuss cell response to retinal damage and how it is dependent on circadian rhythm until last summer. However, the most important thing I learned however, was the importance of community and connections. Ultimately wherever you work or live, the people around you and your relationships with them are crucial. I urge you to reach out to me if any of this has motivated you to make a connection.
