WORK HISTORY
Machine Learning Scientist @Ruler Analytics
Liverpool, GB
Responsible as the lead R&D Scientist & Engineer for delivering on a UK innovation smart grant: bringing Machine Learning to Ruler Analytics! Rapidly conducted primary and secondary research on business & statistical concepts. Produced a State-Space Markov Chain machine learning data driven attribution multi-touch marketing model within the first 3 months - taking the guesswork out of online user tracking. Self-taught Dockers & AWS SageMaker: researching & deeming them necessary to achieve my goals at the company without burdening the Development team. Within 9 months, implemented a Cloud based AWS SageMaker system to manage repeatedly scheduling, tracking & scaling Machine Learning products across all clients. Purposefully built the above AWS SageMaker system in such a way that future models can be encapsulated easily – facilitating rapid deployment of products. Worked largely independently (self-managing): setup a weekly meeting to update the head of development, directors and consultants on my work, bringing high-level deliverables. Integrated well with the broader Development team & Company in code reviews, discussing ideas & socials! Proactively produced Data Storytelling documents on products coming to Ruler internally to the whole company, hopefully to remove some of the mysticism in machine learning… Focused intently with directors in addressing knowledge gaps & giving them the confidence to speak on complex statistical subjects to facilitate client onboarding. Further presented work to the company at the quarterly review using digestible, understandable language. Built a mixed marketing model using hyper-parameter tuned regression – enabling clients to attribute individual marketing channels & offline sources to revenue. Continue to Innovate, including a hybrid model based on the aforementioned projects.

ABOUT BENJAMIN NETHERWOOD
Passionate about unraveling the intricacies of neurons, my journey began with a background in Neuroscience and has seamlessly transitioned into the realm of machine learning. In my introspection, I\'ve developed a profound affinity for machine learning and the art of crafting neural network models. My fascination lies in harnessing the power of machine learning to navigate our data-driven and technologically evolving world. Exploring the fascinating interplay between network learning and the nuances of human psychology has further captured my curiosity. I bring with me a history as a former PhD candidate in computational neuroscience, where I delved into deciphering the mechanics of learning and memory in human patients at the intersection of neuronal and big data. My approach encompassed the innovative use of virtual reality gaming to immerse patients in meticulously designed experiments. Subsequently, I employed machine learning and statistical analyses to decode cognitive function and formulate hypotheses about neural mechanisms. Beyond my professional pursuits, I find solace in continually expanding my knowledge of AI and even crafting my own video game. I also possess a strong passion for Electronics and am intrigued by the prospect of integrating AI directly with hardware. My diverse physical interests extend to a range of sports including a love for partner acrobatics, men\'s high bar gymnastics, bodybuilding (a guilty pleasure I share with my appetite 🤫), sporadic wakeboarding, and the art of mixed martial arts & boxing. On a lighter note, I am working towards a 365-day streak on DuoLingo, diligently practising even at my favourite coffee shop. Although I\'ve managed to largely quit caffeine, my love for decaffeinated coffee still holds strong. It\'s a reminder that some well-established patterns, from the behavioural & psychological level right down to the data we train AI models on, can be quite persistent in driving affective outcomes.
