About Benjamin Mericli
An engineer by training with a passion for human language, I am currently working as a Software Development Engineer on the Alexa AI team at Amazon, developing large language model (LLM) applications to power conversational voice interfaces.I began my professional life as an analyst with the U.S. Department of Defense, and subsequently consulted on academic and government projects at the nexus of linguistics and computing. More recently, I have pursued a career in the tech sector, first at a sparse data AI startup, then with Merriam-Webster\'s digital team, and now at Amazon Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and Alexa.I have studied and done research on (and worked with speech and text data from) several languages over the years, including English, Spanish, Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Persian/Farsi, and Chamorro, and I enjoy learning languages as much as I do teaching them to machines.
