As Program Supervisor for The Way Out, an initiative of The Salvation Army dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery as they rebuild their lives after treatment, I oversee operations and staff at The Alfred Wells Place, our newest transitional housing program in San Francisco. I lead a team of eight Program Assistants to ensure compassionate, 24-hour program operations, facilitate housing education groups that equip residents with the knowledge and tools to secure stable housing, and provide individualized support as they take steps toward independence and purpose. This role represents a full-circle moment for me, as nearly five years ago I began my own recovery journey at The Salvation Army’s Harbor Light program. Since then, I have dedicated my career to nonprofit work that empowers others and strengthens the community that once helped me. Every day, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead with empathy, share my lived experience, and help others find their own way out.
