Services and Solutions• Offshore reinsurance transactions – a US subsidiary of an insurance company reinsures some of its business to another subsidiary in Bermuda or the Cayman Islands and creates additional surplus assets or lowers capital requirements for new business generation, which can improve competitiveness• Offshore reinsurance company setup – a private equity firm wishes to explore setting up a reinsurance company in an offshore jurisdiction, and support can range from simple jurisdictional analysis all the way to complete setup and operation of the company• Asset liability management – asset manager-owned insurance companies often need support constructing a portfolio that matches their liability composition, especially in terms of exposure to interest ratesRelevant experience• Ben was the chief actuary as well as a member of the board of directors for Prudential’s Bermuda subsidiaries, Gibraltar Re and Lotus Re. This included responsibility for transaction pricing and execution, where he onboarded tens of billions of dollars of life insurance, annuities, and accident and health insurance from the United States, Japan, and China.• Ben has extensive experience working with the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) on all aspects of running a Bermuda company, including technical items related to the implementation of the Scenario-Based Approach (SBA). He has been through external transaction reviews and external SBA reviews. He was also heavily involved in providing feedback and guidance to the BMA on their recent regulatory changes.• Ben has led multiple valuation teams covering a variety of accounting frameworks, including Bermuda EBS and US GAAP with the fair value option elected. He has been responsible for completing the BSCR as well as the QFS.
