About Benjamin Greuter
Raised a 4-H member and Boy-Scout on a small farm in Indiana, I\'m a first generation Bachelor\'s holder and teacher with the horizon in view. Rooted in discipline and the care for others, I take what I learned in the corn fields into the career field. I started out working with nonprofit need-based after school programs and summer camps while an undergraduate student, in addition to several other part-time experiences, and having finished my studies in English (Creative Writing) and Philosophy at Knox College, I stepped off a plane into the last place my younger self would\'ve predicted; the P.R.C. Half a decade and four jobs later, I\'m married to an amazing Shaanxi woman with whom I share daily the joys (and struggles) of my responsibilities teaching in China. Having spent most of my professional career teaching and leading, I\'ve discovered an affinity for communication and personal/professional relations that certainly shapes my daily life. I hope, above all things, to be of effective and purposeful use to the changing of this world for the better, whether that\'s simply the warm atmosphere in my home or the stimulating learning-environment of my classroom from within which our future leaders are developing. Learning the IB Framework is a new and exciting landmark in my growth, both professionally and personally. A writer and philosopher by academic training, my life has always had language and its’ key concepts (communication, culture, connections, and creativity) at its center. Articulating one’s views, feelings, experiences and knowledge is the beating heart of societal development, the deepening of the mind, the learning process itself; I’ve dedicated my life to enabling myself and those around me in exactly that. Specialties: Creative Writing, Critical thinking and analysis, communication, program creation and coordination, problem-solving, public speaking, professional and academic writing, teaching/pedagogy and identifying with children and young adults, philosophy (general/educational/spiritual), reading and ESL development, reflection, and striving for the best for both myself and those I serve.
