ABOUT BENJAMIN DUVE

Benjamin Duve was part of the Market Infrastructure and Payments Directorate at the European Central Bank. In his role he was tasked with the long-term vision for tokenisation of money and assets including wholesale central bank money settlement. This vision comprises all aspects around issuance, post-trade, collateral, and wholesale payments (both domestic and cross-border) and the roles the central bank plays to derive a vision for the future of capital markets and wholesale payments. His work on DLT based capital markets in key parts informs the considerations around a closely aligned or a European ledger as the way forward towards a Digital Capital Markets Union in Europe.Benjamin is an experienced banking executive with a proven track record on executing in the traditional as well as the blockchain and DLT related environment.As a realistic, early-days blockchain and DLT enthusiast he works on finding tomorrows solutions for today’s capital markets\' and payments challenges. Being involved in many securities related proof-of-concepts and live trades dating back to 2017 and execute blockchain and DLT implementations in the more recent years as well as his involvement in shaping the vision around DLT based capital markets in Europe as a central banker, he is a thought leader in the industry and sought after panellist. In his previous role at BNY he was part of the leadership team of the Digital Asset Unit. In his enterprise wide role he was the lead for tokenization globally, but also looked at digital assets and the potential opportunities they offered broadly across the organization and business lines. With an overall strategy as well as the implementation of use-cases, the role offered the opportunity to deepen the understanding and challenges of digital assets from a strategic and practical implementation point of view.Prior to that as Head of Digital Assets at Commerzbank AG he explored the new value proposition from issuance to custody for institutional and corporate clients and oversaw a digital assets strategy around crypto and digital assets which culminated in the board approval to apply for the Crypto custody license earlier than all other large universal banks in Europe. Among several client coverage roles, he ran a successful integrated execution to custody business as Head of Custody and DMA part of a corporate investment bank.
