As Head of Control for Network Rail’s Wessex Route, I lead the 24/7 operational Command & Control function based at Basingstoke Rail Operating Centre and the Waterloo Area of Operations. I am responsible for overseeing real‑time incident management, service delivery, and service recovery across one of the busiest and most complex parts of the UK rail network.My role focuses on delivering safe, reliable and customer‑focused operations by directing a high‑performing multidisciplinary team, shaping and implementing the route’s incident management strategy, and driving continuous improvement in train service performance. I provide strategic leadership during major disruptions, coordinating recovery plans and ensuring timely communication with the Route Executive, the National Operations Centre, train operators, and other senior stakeholders.I create a culture centred on safety, accountability and collaboration, enabling frontline insight to inform policies and operational planning. With accountability for disaster and incident management readiness, and compliance with safety-critical standards, I ensure the railway responds effectively to disruption while meeting demanding operational, financial, and customer satisfaction targets.
