ABOUT SEAN BENDER

Sean is a compassionate, competent, and hardworking young man who has invested his time in developing interpersonal and career focused skills. He is a dual degree student in risk management and actuarial science finishing his final year at the University of Calgary. In 2022, Sean took part in the Haskayne Leadership Expedition. This course provides students with opportunities to develop unique skills and qualities to thrive as leaders in the business industry. His love of outdoor activities such as hiking, and camping made this an unforgettable experience.Since 2016, Sean has been involved with robotics and electric vehicle development. He collaborated with peers to develop a robot which competed at the FRC Canadian Rockies Regional Competition and internationally at the 2018 First Robotics Competition World Championship in Houston, Texas. As a university student, he now holds the role of business manager of the University of Calgary Solar Car Team. This team provides undergraduate students opportunities to learn about the energy and automotive industries through the development and racing of solar electric vehicles. His previous accomplishments as part of the sponsorship management team led to the organization acquiring over through grants, sponsorships, and silent auction donations which go towards the cost of vehicle construction and competitions, including the 2022 Formula Sun Grand Prix. Sean was also responsible for overseeing and coaching other managers on the team, and aiding them in developing their own leadership and operational skills. Sean is seeking to grow his knowledge and skills through local and distant opportunities in the insurance and actuarial communities. He is excited and to see where his next adventure will lead him.
