About Benard Tabu
Fulbright Scholar and applied plasma scientist, currently Senior Scientist at Heartland Water Technology, leading innovations in PFAS destruction, waste-to-energy, and industrial decarbonization. I bring more than a decade of experience at the intersection of plasma physics, energy engineering, and environmental sustainability. My expertise spans the design, operation, and scale-up of high-power plasma reactors (100–300 kW), with applications in hydrogen production, biosolids valorization, and advanced water treatment. At Heartland, I am spearheading thermal plasma solutions for PFAS destruction, tackling one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges. Previously, at Maat Energy, I led the development of a 100-kW microwave plasma reactor for pyrolysis and dry reforming, gaining deep experience in microwave systems, plasma diagnostics, and industrial pilot design. During my doctoral research at UMass Lowell, I advanced plasma-assisted hydrogen production technologies, managed a DOE-funded project, and published widely in peer-reviewed journals, earning recognition as the Outstanding Doctoral Student in Energy Engineering (2023). Beyond research, I am passionate about teaching and mentorship. I served for over eight years as a Physics Lecturer at Gulu University (Uganda), where I taught core physics courses, developed curricula, and supervised student projects with a focus on applied learning. Today, I continue to support education and community initiatives as a Board Member of HeartSounds US, Inc. My mission is to advance plasma technologies that protect the environment and decarbonize industry—from laboratory breakthroughs to commercial deployment. I welcome opportunities to collaborate across academia, industry, and policy on projects that drive meaningful, real-world impact.
