My primary focus is maritime law. I have assisted financial institutions, private equity groups energy and maritime companies companies in financing and arranging for the construction, purchase, sale, and charter of vessels, rigs, liftboats and accommodation units. I have significant experience in working with the Export-Import Bank of the United States, MARAD and the U.S. Coast Guard. I have represented underwriters, vessel owners and rig owners in a wide variety of maritime, casualty and commercial litigation in state and federal courts as well as in arbitration. Representative Transactions -Represented investors in the purchase, financing and refurbishment of a $300 million drill ship-Represented investment group in connection with the acquisition of a fleet of accommodation vessels-Represented U.S. lenders in connection with the financing of floating casinos-Represented Mexican drilling contractor in construction of jack-up rig using EXIM financing (the transaction was named “Deal of the Year” by Trade Finance Magazine)-Represented an investment group in connection with the acquisition of a major U.S. tug and barge company. Representative Litigation -Represented rig owner in obtaining multi-million dollar judgment against drilling contractor for breach of charter agreement-Represented commodities merchant in landmark 5th Circuit decision recognizing that stevedore had no maritime lien on a vessel when those services are not ordered by a person with authority to bind the vessel-Represented well service company in defending claims for personal injury, death and loss of production arising out of an explosion on a drilling platform.
