ABOUT BEN MINAKER
I am a self-motivated individual who is very passionate about sports and using data/software to create solutions and improve efficiency. I have applied my foundational knowledge in Statistics and Mathematics learned during my BSc degree to my skills in SQL, Python and Excel PowerQuery/PowerBI to be effective in creating data solutions and insights. Through various projects and courses, I have become proficient in my ability to use various coding languages to solve problems that involve creating ETL pipelines, building relational databases, visualizing data, web-scraping data, creating insights and developing user dashboards.During my time with SFU Football (NCAA DII), I was a 4-year starter and team captain. Some of my achievements at SFU include being a 3x Academic All-Conference selection, 3x Dean’s Honour Roll selection, 1x President’s Honour Roll Selection, and being named the Terry Fox Inspirational Athlete of the Year in my senior season. I was also involved in various extra-curricular activities which included being an ambassador for the MySSP Mental Health Initiative, serving as a TA for an Upper-Division Anatomy course and serving as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Representative. From a young age, I worked in my parent’s family business at ProSource Supply where I worked in roles including sales, shipping/receiving and training/development. During this time, I learned the importance of building and maintaining a healthy business culture and acquired invaluable insights into the operations of a business. This taught me the valuable skill of having a self-starter mentality and taking initiative to solve problems independently.
