Control Room Operator @bp

View department →

I started my career as a Quartz Trainee and in completing a three-year course I gained a National Diploma in Operational and Maintenance Engineering. I am currently working on the A4 and A5 Acid Plant’s as both a control room and outside technician. This job involves making sure the plant maintains safe and reliable production of Acetic Acid. This is done by monitoring various flows, pressure, sample results and readings and adjusting the process accordingly. In this role Safety is the number one priority and plant operational procedures must be followed at all times. This is essential during plant shutdowns and times of upset as the plant must be shutdown correctly to avoid incident. Before each task is performed a Task Observation is undertaken to ensure that all aspects of the job have been thought through to minimise any problems or issues that could arise. I also have a high standard of handover skills by ensuring that all information is correctly passed onto the oncoming technician. I make them aware of outstanding permits, ongoing work or plant upsets and issues. This includes: leaks, isolated equipment and ongoing operational issues. I have taken part in a number of plant shutdowns and worked under the sites Permit to Work system for both maintenance and preparation of plant and equipment. I have excellent IT skills and use computer systems daily for various tasks including the recording of process faults and maintenance issues. As part of my development at Saltend, I am the vice chairman of Hulls Duty Safety Representatives; which among other activities involves being a point of contact for the full site with regard to safety matters. The role involves various audits and best safety practices among the site. Enabling me to have a good understanding and working knowledge of the Health and Safety Executive practices.I manage a team of 16 people from across our site, all with different backgrounds and working for various companies.
