About Ben McCary
Started as far from data science as humanly possible (clergy!) but now I help tech start ups figure out what to do next and I help them get there. I use statistics, experimentation, and ML to inform strategic decisions and build data products. I\'m generalist who focuses on finding the technique that get the best results quickly.I began in data as an analyst at a small HR firm where I helped them go from zero to data dependent. From there I jumped into the data Shangri-La that was Convoy, where I helped optimize operations and build a B2B data platform. Since, I\'ve worked at Roofstock, where I prototyped the ML models that optimize rental real estate repair & maintenance and I\'ve conducted strategic analysis to inform what we should build next. My best professional attributes- master at adding gifs in the chat- generally try to keep things light, pragmatic, and collab as a team- providing informed opinions about how data can inform business decisions- data visualization (Looker/Tablau/Sigma/etc)- data warehouse modeling- managing a complex workload across multiple stakeholders- making causal arguments from observational analysis (working with not-yet-big data)- making causal arguments from experiments (working with big-enough data)- prototyping ML models
