Responsible for ASU, Oxygen and Nitrogen generator troubleshooting, efficiency and upgrade work in the UKI team.Troubleshooting/Non Standard Operations (NSO):The role of an operations engineer involves identifying root causes of plant operating and efficiency issues as well as providing support for NSO where required working on site with operators and line management. On site support of NSO has helped to build my operating experience has and appreciate the need for preparedness and adaptability based responding to ever changing deadlines and priorities or equipment availability/breakdown. I have supported NSO in other European countries working around the language barrier.Efficiency:Working with others to develop a renewed set of real-time of Key performance indicators (KPIs) for the UKI nitrogen and Oxygen generator fleet, I have been able to use these metrics to monitor the performance of multiple assets in one tool. This has allowed me to liaise with site and central operations teams to pre-empt plant issues and rectify underperformance,Upgrade and life extension projects:Working with a fleet of Nitrogen and Oxygen generators I have been involved in multiple life extension and relocate projects. This involves identification of refurbishment scope and specification of new equipment and providing process support for re-rate projects to suit the performance of an existing plant to new requirements. This has been for both production increases and downrating existing assets to provide efficient turn down within acceptable process limits. On larger ASU plants upgrade projects are often multi discipline capacity upgrades. Working with other operations departments including electrical, mechanical and controls engineers has given me an insight into the work done by each and the considerations that need to be made for these disciplines when specifying process equipment and producing P & ID changenotes to follow the management of change (MOC) procedures.
