ABOUT BEN HELLAWELL

I have 12 years experience as an architect, working with developers from a variety of sectors on both large and small projects to deliver City Centre apartments, listed building conversions, HCA funder housing, speculative private sale properties and masterplanning bids. In 2012 I joined NPS group to assist with re-building client relationships and to improve design standards within the office. As a manager for their major projects, I am responsible for a team of 15 architects operating across various sectors of work. During my time with NPS I have also worked with W & DH, helping delivery of their affordable housing program by providing site wide feasibility studies, planning applications and the delivery of housing projects on site. Before joining NPS I worked for Cartwright Pickard Architects where I have completed several award winning residential projects including an innovative Housing Scheme at Primrose Hill in Huddersfield, winning 6 major awards including the Best Sustainability Initiative Award. I have also managed the conversion of a Georgian warehouse into 35 residential apartments within the heart of Manchester’s Conservation area and been closely involved with English Heritage on several other listed building projects in Leeds, Wakefield and Sheffield. During my time at Cartwright Pickard Architects as a project director I was involved in leading several residential masterplan and mixed use developments including the first phase HCA bid for the delivery of 300 dwellings at Carr Logde in Doncaster, 800 dwellings for the Sheffield LHF bid program, 950 homes in Barnsley and project leader for the competition work on a £40m low energy mixed use development at the City Centre, Tower Works site in Leeds. I have undertaken several Code for Sustainable Homes assessments at various levels and have recently completed a Code level 5 Scheme of 24 apartments and 10 houses for rent and intermediate ownership for South Yorkshire Housing Association.
