ABOUT BEN GARDNER

Ben is a commercial and technology contracts lawyer with a focus on the Manufacturing, Technology, Energy, and Mobility sectors- Contracting ExpertiseBen supports clients across the full range of commercial law disciplines, including supply of goods and services arrangements, technology contracts, outsourcings, warehousing and logistics, facilities management, joint ventures, routes to market, and consumer/e-commerce law.Ben has spent time working in-house on secondment with FTSE listed businesses, so he understands the pressures that in-house teams face and the importance of commerciality, pragmatism, and cost transparency- Mobility Sector Experience Ben has a particular focus in the Automotive and Technology sectors, especially where these two worlds collide: working on transformational and award-winning projects in the “Future Mobility” space.Ben’s work and profile in this area has seen him appointed to specialist boards and working groups within the UK Automotive Council and SMMT. His role in the Automotive Council sees him working with Government, OEMs, and other industry stakeholders to ensure that the UK automotive industry remains competitive internationally.Ben has also provided evidence to a House of Commons Select Committee on the regulatory changes needed to facilitate the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles in the UK. He has previously been involved with a range of automotive and mobility research projects and regularly speaks at industry events and in the national press- Market Entry AdviceBen regularly advises international businesses and start-ups (ranging from global car distributors to operators of autonomous robots) on establishing their UK operations and scaling up. This includes advice on applicable regulatory considerations and licences, setting up legal entities, preparing template contracts and playbooks, training, and negotiating supply and cooperation arrangements with key partners- Industry Recognition Ben is recognised in Legal 500 for the advice he provides to both “traditional businesses and disruptive start-ups” and is described as having “a wealth of experience handling contractual arrangements in the automotive industry”.In Chambers, he is recognised as a Notable IT Practitioner who “advises across the full range of matters in this area, with a particular focus in the manufacturing, automotive, consumer goods and technology sectors”.
