ABOUT BELINDA JOHNSON
From South London via South Wales, and now based in Liverpool, I am a creative marketing and communications leader with 16 years of experience across arts, culture, media, and education, building brands and developing audiences for organisations with genuine community purpose. An early curiosity in digital and print production has resulted in a career that covers the full breadth of marketing: strategy and brand, omni-channel campaigns, content, PR, digital, live events, publishing, and product management. I was publisher of Tate Etc. from 2013 to 2016, helping shape what was then Europe\'s most widely circulated art magazine and have also worked with Vivid City, BUILDHOLLYWOOD, Pom Pom Publishing, Acme, Hauser & Wirth, Frieze and Thames & Hudson.I now lead at Head of Department level at The City of Liverpool College, leading brand, digital, campaigns, partnerships and institutional culture. I\'m interested in how large organisations talk about themselves: honestly, ambitiously, and in language that actually reaches the people it\'s meant for.I think a lot about what physical and analogue communication still does that digital can\'t, and have lectured on print resilience and publishing futures at the London College of Communication and Cardiff University. I\'m a believer in the staying power of things you can hold, but also what we can encounter away from screens and algorithms.Outside of my day job, I\'ve worked in live broadcast radio for MiSoul and Soho Radio, and also ran my own lockdown radio station through 2020 and 2021. I\'ve been a Penny Lane FC matriarch since 2023, sitting on our management committee and looking after brand and identity. I was also a postgraduate mentor at the University of the Arts London for several years. If it involves making something worth paying attention to, and making sure the right people can find it, I\'m interested.
