ABOUT BEHZAD NAJAFI
I am an Associate Professor at the Energy Department of Politecnico di Milano and the head of Science at DataOptima Lab. My research activities have been focused on the application of artificial intelligence and optimization in the energy sector. I have specifically been working on physics-inspired machine learning-based thermal behaviour modelling of indoor environments and HVAC systems to facilitate real-time optimization aiming at providing demand flexibility, PV self-consumption enhancement, and energy saving. I have also carried out activities on smart meter-driven remote auditing of buildings and HVAC load disaggregation, along with with physical modelling and long-term performance optimization of energy systems. I have also performed activities on physical and physics-inspired modelling of particle transport, predictive particle generation modelling and Smart ventilation for pharmaceutical sector.In the context of these activities, I have collaborated with several industrial firms and academic institutions, I have supervised 3 PhD theses (2 ongoing) and over 40 M.Sc. thesis projects, and I have published over 40 journal publications.My industrial activities in DataOptima Lab have instead been focused on design and implementation of data-driven pipelines in various industries specifically in the HVAC facility management, pharmaceutical, and Food and beverages sectors. I have carried out several projects in this area, in which I have been involved in the design of the pipeline, the choice of architecture, development of the machine learning models, and cloud deployment.
