I lead the in-house design studio at LNER — a team I built from the ground up to bring creative expertise into the heart of the business. Starting as a team of two, we’re now a core strategic function delivering high-quality, on-brand design across every area of the business — while saving over £1.5 million annually compared to external agency costs.My role combines studio leadership, creative operations, brand governance and team wellbeing. I manage a team of five (Senior Designer, Studio Designers, Multimedia Designer), ensuring our work is consistent, considered and always aligned to the LNER brand.We work across a wide variety of briefs, from internal comms to signage, brochures, campaigns, digital assets and environmental design. While we collaborate closely with external agencies for major campaigns and customer experience projects, the in-house Studio leads on day-to-day design delivery, tactical projects and large-scale internal initiatives. We don’t just respond to briefs — we challenge, question, and elevate the work at every opportunity.I’ve led the Studio through three major rail brand transitions — East Coast Main Line, Virgin Trains East Coast, and now LNER — each requiring a strategic and creative reset. I also ensure our evolving brand guidelines, tone of voice and asset library are effectively managed and embedded across the business.Above all, I’m proud to have nurtured a trusted, values-driven team that delivers consistently high standards, under pressure, with pride — and to have played a part in shaping one of the most recognised rail brands in the UK.
