BiographyChief Thurnauer started his career at the University of Connecticut Police Department in 1974. He was assigned to the State Narcotics Squad in 1975 and left the University Department for the Manchester, CT Police Department in 1976.Chief Thurnauer rose through the ranks in Manchester, a department of 120 sworn officers and 160 total employees. He retired from Manchester in 1998 at the rank of Captain having worked in all Divisions and units including Traffic, Training, Administration, Narcotics, Accreditation, Internal Affairs, Patrol and Special Projects. In 1998 he became the Chief of Police of Coventry, CT a community of five miles from Manchester and bordering the University of Connecticut. Coventry PD has 20 employees.In 2007 he joined the East Hartford Police Department and serves today as theDeputy Chief of the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
