ABOUT BEATRIZ VAZ
My name is Beatriz Vaz and I am a third-year BSc Biomedical Science student at the University of Sheffield currently doing a Year in Industry placement at GSK HQ where I assist in the management of malaria clinical trials. I have gained lab experience spending a week volunteering in one of the university\'s labs, mainly doing cell culture work on both zebrafish primary and HeLa cells, and fluorescence imaging microscopy analysis using manually-constructed robots. I also volunteered with Women in STEM during my first-year, where I spent time visiting disadvantaged primary schools to deliver science sessions to children in Year 5 and 6, primarily to encourage girls\' interest in STEM. I took a gap year before coming to university, where I worked part-time in hospitality. Doing this allowed me to develop many soft skills such as leadership, communication, time-management, and people skills. Additionally, I was Secretary of the Wider Reading Club Committee provided by Medic Mentor, where I was in charge of organising the committee\'s meetings as well as weekly presentations and monthly debates. I presented to over 200 students on medical topics such as medical ethics and public health.I\'m interested in pursuing my interest in global health further, and am currently undertaking opportunities to develop this. You can reach me any time at b•••••••@gmail.com
