ABOUT BEATRICE CHALKLEY
I’m a first-year student at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business majoring in Finance, with strong interests in international business, marketing, and team leadership. Growing up in New York City, surrounded by people, cultures, and perspectives from around the world, shaped the way I communicate, problem-solve, and connect with others. It taught me early on that great business begins with understanding people. At twelve, I started tutoring younger students in my neighborhood. What began as simple homework help evolved into a full-fledged business built on confidence-building, skill development, and personalized support. Working with students who often struggled with self-doubt taught me how to listen, adapt my approach on the spot, and lead with empathy, skills I now apply across every academic, professional, and team environment. I consider this experience one of my most valuable foundations in leadership and communication. Throughout high school, I balanced my growing tutoring business with academics, advocacy, sports, and community service. These experiences deepened my passion for economics and business by showing me how access, opportunity, and mentorship can transform communities and the role inclusive leadership plays in business success. At Kelley, I’m building on these experiences by immersing myself in finance and economics while exploring opportunities related to marketing and global business. I thrive in collaborative environments, whether working through case competitions, contributing to student organizations, or supporting classmates. I’ve been able to find community through one of Kelley\'s premiere student organizations, Women & Co, where I actively participate in social, professional development, and philanthropy events. Being surrounded by a group of highly intelligent and motivated women in business inspires me daily and instills in me an incredibly strong work ethic. Looking ahead, I’m eager to expand upon my experiences in Women & Co, becoming more involved and seeking leadership opportunities as my time at Indiana progresses. My long-term goal is to pursue a career that combines financial analysis with cross-cultural communication, potentially in international marketing, banking with global clients, or wealth management. No matter the path, I’m driven by the same mission that has guided me from the start: helping people and systems reach their full potential.
