My main municipal projects have included net zero wastewater strategies for a municipality in Ontario, a major plant capacity upgrade using MABRs, process narrative and control writing for unit processes and full plants, and pumping station capacity assessments and performance reviews. I also do wastewater sampling, treatment system design and system performance assessments for the food and beverage and automotive manufacturing industries. I have operated and designed on-site treatment systems including processes such as DAFs, MBRs and trickling filters. I have conducted numerous water conservation studies supported by on-site temporary flow measurements.

ABOUT BENJAMIN BEELEN
I am a licenced Professional Engineer in Ontario and a Wastewater Process Engineer at GHD, working out of the Waterloo office. I work with a team of talented engineers and scientists to deliver excellent wastewater solutions to clients worldwide in both industrial and municipal applications. I am also an active volunteer with the Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) and Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA), where I sit on their Climate Change committee (chair) and Conference planning committee.I have a Master’s of Applied Science in Civil (Water) Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where my thesis explored the operational and greenhouse gas impacts of food waste grinder use in multi-unit residential buildings. My research also included the quantification of greenhouse gas emissions from a municipal-scale sewage system and wastewater treatment plant. I also have a Bachelors of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Waterloo where I specialized in Water Resource engineering. With over five years of industry experience, I have worked in a variety of positions from field sampling, consulting, surveyor, and process optimization at wastewater treatment plants.
