Flying is first of all an old dream, a crazy desire, which has long remained abstract. Before the plane, flight was thought of through the image of the “Bird Man” set with feathers. The steel wings transformed the form of this dream: the “image of Icarus” became a great “eminently rational” machine. We went from “dream flight” to a technical and concrete project. Where the ancient poet imagined himself a bird, modern man has become a pilot.
