ABOUT BASTIAN DREES
Bastian Drees holds a physics diploma from Münster University, a PhD in biophysics from Heidelberg University and a postgraduate degree in Librarianship (“Bibliotheksreferendariat”). Since 2014, he has been working in the field of academic libraries, research data, and open science. For three and a half years he worked as Community Manager and Deputy Head of the Lab Non-Textual Materials at the German National Library for Science and Technology (TIB) in the field of audiovisual research data. Since 2020, he has been working at EMBL first as Head of Library and then as Head of the Office for Scientific Information Management (OSIM).The EMBL Office for Scientific Information Management (OSIM) provides a hub of expertise on the management of scientific outputs and open science support for EMBL researchers and staff. OSIM encompasses the Szilárd Library, EMBL Archive and Records, and EMBL Open Science support. OSIM is responsible for the implementation and further development of EMBL´s Open Science policy. They support researchers in all questions about funder and policy compliance and the publication process. OSIM promotes open science in EMBL-internal training and information campaigns as well as through participation in external networks and working groups, such as the Open Science Working Groups of the EIROforum as well as UNESCO.
