The SCSM’s 1.1 million objects, research, and educational resources reflect the essence and diversity of South Carolina through its history, science, technology, nature and art. Accomplishments to date include a 157% increase in the Museum’s annual state appropriation; 52% raised of a $75 million dollar capital in support of significant upgrades to the museum’s permanent galleries and digital initiatives; a 117% increase in funded full time staff positions; a smartly designed and accessible bilingual public website featuring a searchable collections database and increased accessibility programming. The SCSM is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum.
