About Bart Johnsen-Harris
I am an environmental lobbyist in Washington, D.C, where I currently lead Trust for Public Land’s federal climate advocacy. I also co-chair the budget and appropriations coalition for the broader environmental community.Before joining TPL, I worked in government relations at several other national environmental nonprofits. I handled the federal public lands portfolio at Defenders of Wildlife and led an effort that increased funding by nearly 70% over two years for threatened and endangered species recovery at the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. At Environment America, I successfully lobbied Congress in 2019 to end the U.S. military\'s use of toxic PFAS \"forever chemicals\" that pollute the drinking water of millions of Americans. I previously served as a legislative clerk in the U.S. Senate and as a researcher at the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative. I started my career working with small environmental nonprofits in the Middle East, completing research and policy work in Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank. I am a native of Rhode Island and hold a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Brown University.
