ABOUT BARRY KENDALL

I’m a nonprofit executive with 20 years of leadership experience and a strong track record of growing revenue, building teams, and turning vision into momentum. I bring strategic clarity, financial acumen, and deep listening to every role—and I’m at my best when navigating complexity with purpose and heart.Currently, I serve as Director of Institutional Giving at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, where I lead strategy and operations for a $4M annual institutional portfolio spanning foundation, corporate, and government funding. I work across departments to develop fundable strategies, manage a growing grant pipeline, and drive impact storytelling that secures major support for one of the Bay Area’s most vital community institutions.Previously, as Executive Director of Circus Center, I revitalized the organization by raising $2.25M+ in new contributions, growing revenue by more than 90%, and launching innovative programs—including a performance season and a city-funded outreach initiative bringing circus arts to children in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district.Previously, as chief executive of two public policy organizations, I built coalitions to amplify the reach and impact of national policy campaigns for the 2009 stimulus package, the 2010 federal budget, the Affordable Care Act, and immigration reform. I began in the arts, leading a performing arts center in Atlanta back to financial health and teaching acting and research design at Stanford, where I earned my PhD.Thanks to those theatrical roots, I’m just as comfortable emceeing an event or leading a strategic planning session as I am facilitating a tough conversation or engaging a room full of stakeholders in a shared vision. I live in the Bay Area with my family, who not only tolerate but celebrate my enduring love of karaoke. Skills include: strategic planning, financial management and budgeting, program development, team leadership, constituent relations, donor relations, stakeholder management, fundraising, development, institutional advancement, and nonprofit operations.
